How they are structured at the local and parent level: the local level: union locals or simply locals, are established on the basis of geographical proximity. Locals typically represent eligible workers at a single location, though in the case of so-(cid:272)alled amalgamated locals, where two locals have joined together, they may represent workers a number of locations within a geographical area. The role of union locals: it is usually the local unions that represents workers on a day-to day basis and it is a t local level that most union members have the greatest opportunity to participate in union affairs. Local union structure: locals generally elect their own officers in order to oversee union affairs, including a president, vp, financial officer, etc and these positions are usually part time on a voluntary basis. Larger unions usually have paid jobs with business agents and union reps.
