Document Summary

All sections of chapter, only readings required by. Chapter 10 gases: their properties and behaviour. Gas mixtures are always homogenous (uniform in composition), unlike liquids which may fail to mix and separate into distinct layers, gases always mix completely. Gases are compressible volume of gas proportionately contracts when pressure is applied, but this isn"t the case for solids and liquids. Ideal gas law implies there must be some gases whose behavior is non-ideal no such thing as an ideal gas that obeys equation perfectly under all circumstances. All real gases are nonideal and deviate slightly from behavior predicted by gas laws. Most gas calculations are just applications of the ideal gas law in which three of the variables p, V, t and n are known and fourth variable must be calculated. Chapter 10. 5: mixtures of gases: partial pressure and dalton"s law. Gas laws apply to all pure gases regardless of chemical identity and apply to mixtures of gases too.
