Language is distinguished from speech, language can be transmitted by various non- spoken media, such as written words, morse code, or gestures. Native speakers of a language share not only vocabulary and grammar, but also assumptions about how to speak. Sometimes there are no equivilant words between languages, makes for non-sensical statements. Learning to speak a second language can result in a sense of culture shock as disorienting as physically being in another culture. Often like learning how to identify new objects with new labels.
