Document Summary
Boxplot: a boxplot displays a 5-number summary as a central box with whiskers that extend to the nonoutlying data values. Boxplots are particularly effective for comparing groups and for displaying possible outliers. Suspect outliers: any point more than 15 iqr from either end of the box in the boxplot is nominated as a possible or suspect outlier. Timeplot: a timeplot displays data that change over time. Often, recessive values are connected with lines to show trends more clearly. Sometimes a smooth curve is added to the lot to help show long term patterns and trends. Comparing distributions: when comparing the distribution of several groups. Identify them if you can and discuss why they might be unusual.
