Paper will examine the experiences of 11 women in the information technology field who have had successful careets, characterized by advancement and promotion. Their preceptions of the barriers and opportunities for women in this male-dominated field. Seminal work on gendered organizations and institutions the very concept of a job is gendered because it assumes a particular gendered organization of domestic life and social production. Vast majority of jobs were not designed to be combined with other duties, like caring for others and manging a household. Problem for women and a growing number of men is that they do have outside oligations.
