Social movements play a role in contemporary political sociology by influencing its development (e. g. university) They understand movement and partake in social change, hence new movements". They are involved in struggles of social construction. They revolve around the change and struggle of social change. The new social movement includes the civil rights movement, student movement, women"s movement, the gay liberation movement and the environmental movement. They are non-instrumental, testing morality rather than the interests of particular social groups. They are oriented with more towards civil society than the state. They are organized and loose in flexible ways. They are highly dependent on mass media (i. e. protests) The labor movement also actually marginalized other social movements. Social movements did not resemble the labour market. Social movements in general share some features attribute to the old labour movement. Networks , organization based on smaller centered groups rather than nationally oriented.
