Intimate male partner violence (impv) is widely acknowledged as a critical health issue for women worldwide however relatively little is known about its production in diverse settings and contexts. The findings demonstrate the need to develop context specific knowledge about the issue. Impv is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality for women worldwide. The most common physical injuries being multi-site contusions and soft tissue injuries. Chronic physical health conditions linked to impv include neck and back pain, arthritis, headaches, dizziness, sexually transmitted infections, chronic pelvic pain, gynecological symptoms and gastrointestinal pains. Mental health problems include depression, acute and chronic symptoms of anxiety, consistent with post traumatic stress disorder, substance use/dependence and thoughts of suicide. 1993 violence against women survey well known in canada in which 12,300 randomly selected women were interviewed showed that 51% had been physically or sexually assaulted at least once.
