Document Summary
Sociology seeks to understand the social space in which actions unfold. Sociological imagination thrives by exploring the linkages between personal experience and the surrounding society: person an individual whose uniqueness is captured in his/her personality, which comprises the constellation of traits that reliably define an individual"s singularity. We spend most of our lives connected to other people: character synonym for person , social environment composed of real or imagined others to whom the person is connected. Typically organized, which means that the persons in the environment act in an orderly, patterned way. Social order shows patterns of behaviour. Example: mall, place of worship, shopping centre etc. The locations on a social map of an organization are called statuses: status a culturally defined position or social location. People know their location on a social map and typically follow specified routes: statuses and norms are defined by culture. Different cultures invest different kinds of statuses and associated expectations for action.
