Culture consists of shared symbols and their definition that people create to solve real-life problems. Symbol are concrete things of abstract terms that represent something else ex. Americans, cows to hindus and pigs to muslims. What makes different cultures unique is their culture survival kit containing: Abstraction (construct) is the ability to create general concepts that organize concrete, sensory experience. The 4 legged thing we sit on needs a name so we call it chair. Cooperation it is the capacity to create social life by establishing norms, and generally accepted ways to do things. Production it"s the human capacity to make and use tools. It improves our ability to take what we want from nature. There are three types of norms (generally accepted way of doing things)(varies for different countries). Folkways least important norms and least amount of punishment ex. Mores are core norms that most people believe are essential for survival in the group ex.
