Document Summary

Cannabinoid drugs consist of psychoactive substances that act on cannabinoid receptors in the nervous system. The flowers and leaves of cannabis plants contain trichomes, small hair like structures with glands that release a resin containing a number of biologically active substances referred to as phytocannabinoids. Phytocannabinoids include cannabis"s key psychoactive ingredient, delta9 tetrahydrocannabinol (delta9 thc). The composition of the compounds in cannabis varies, depending on the variety of cannabis, he region in which it is grown, the plant"s level of maturation, and the part of the plant sampled. Cannabis sativa plants can contain the greatest concentrations of delta9 thc relative to other varieties. Cannabis indica tends to have a relatively greater concentration of cannabidiol compared to delta9 thc. Cannabis sativa increases with the maturation of the plant. Marijuana consists of dried cannabis flowers, leaves and stems compressed and rolled for smoking. Slang for marijuana include weed, pot, reefer, and grass.
