PSYC33H3 Chapter Notes - Chapter 2.2: Prospective Memory, Implicit Memory, Etiology
Document Summary
Pda and smartphone use by individuals with moderate-to-severe memory impairment: application. By eva svoboda, brian richards, larry leach, and valerie mertens. A structured, theory-driven training programme for individuals with moderate-to-severe memory impairment in the use of emerging commercial technology. The impact of personal digital assistant or smartphone use on day-to-day memory functioning at baseline, immediately post-intervention, at return to baseline, and at short-term follow-up. Demonstrates that individuals with moderate-to-severe memory impairment can acquire the skills necessary to independently, flexibly and broadly apply commercial technology to support their everyday memory functioning. Commercial technologies have immense potential for individuals with memory impairment as they offer high storage capacity, auditory and vibration alerts, rich multimedia capability and high user acceptability. The programme was grounded in a combination of the multiple memory systems theory, specifically demonstration of preserved implicit memory in amnesia allowing for the acquisition of new skills and information and classical behavioural learning techniques that enhance the latter.
