Inclusion of historical data enhances the validity of judgments regarding malingering. Secondary gain= result inclusion of measures of effort, response bias, symptom exaggeration. Mansion industry- neuropsych involved in forsenic evaluations and papers published to detect poor performance etc. some neuropsych have withheld data from publication because of fear of it been misused. Unresolved issue- whether patients should be warned that test battery include measures of effort/response bias. Patients with genuine impairment try to minimize their de cit to appear normal= complicate the attempt to detect poor cooperation. Desire to maintain one"s dignity and appear competent can override monetary consideration e. g. injured athletes wanting to return. Harder to fake good than to fak bad in cognitive measures because it"s impossible to perform above one"s ability.
