Evolution: the theory of how species developed. Intersexual competition: the process by which one sex selects specific kinds of traits in the other sex. E. g. , around the world, women and men prefer mates of good character. Traits related to good character will be selected for and are more likely to become part of the human design. Intrasexual competition: competition for mates within a sex. E. g. , stags lock horns and engage in battles that are at times violent, to find who is dominant and who therefore has access to mates. The traits that allow some to prevail are more likely to be passed on to succeeding generations: fitness: the likelihood of surviving and reproducing successfully. Fitness is increased for those who are preferred by others as social partners in the same way that fitness is increased for those preferred as sexual partners.
