People tended to perceive and remember the information in terms of race categories. After watching the black couple argue: interacted with black confederate for a shorter period of time. Positive encounters with stereotyped group: perceivers to have more sympathetic beliefs about the group and be open to further interactions with the outgroup. The dimension on which people are viewed as ingroup or outgroup members does not need to be a meaningful one for ingroup or outgroup biases to occur. Participants tended to allocate more resources to their ingroup members. Ingroup favouritism and outgroup negativity tend to be initiated and perpetuated by our motivation to see our groups as special, and better than other groups (implicitly) Boldry and kashy (1999): outgroup homogeneity tends to be strong but ingroup favouritism is not as universal as we thought: group status moderates the tendency to engage in ingroup favouritism. High-status groups --> show ingroup favouritism only on one of several dimensions.
