Back-translation method: a strategy that can reduce the size of this leap of faith. Bit too much of a blind leap of faith to hope that whatever translator has been hired has captured the nuances of the meanings included in the materials. One weakness of the back-translation method is that it might result in a very unnatural or hard-to-understand translation, even though the literal meaning is preserved. In sum, reliable and valid cultural differences are more likely to be found with well- translated materials. This is because cross-cultural comparisons are meaningful only if participants understand the materials in the same way, it"s always important to get the best translation possible, even though securing a good translation might be time-consuming and costly. Response biases are factors that distort the accuracy of a person"s responses to surveys and they become especially problematic when we compare groups that differ in their response biases.
