Characteristics of these publications: articles represent research not previously published, articles are reviewed by peers before being accepted or rejected by a journal, articles are archival (retrievable for future reference) Include secondary analyses that test hypotheses by presenting novel analyses of data not considered or addressed before. Consist of distinct sections that reflect stages in the research: Develop problem under investigation (include historical antecedents) Description of the procedures used to conduct investigation. Critical evaluation of material that has already been published. Quantitative procedures are used to statistically combine the results of studies. Summarize previous investigations to inform the reader of the state of research. Identify relations, contradictions, gaps and inconsistencies in literature.
