PSYB65H3 Chapter 8: Chapter 8 - Develop & Adapt
Document Summary
Predicting behavior from brain structure: structural development can be studied which helps understand behavior. Neuronal structures visual system develops quickly they exhibit their sooner and faster. Some cognitive behaviours that are controlled by frontal lobes are last to develop. Eg: tower of hanoi test: planning skills fully developed around ages 15-17. Correlating brain structure and behavior: behavioral development can be analyzed and predicted by looking at abilities that emerge in life. Eg: at birth, children do not speak the natural structure is not matured yet. As language emerges, the speech related structures mature. Same as the frontal lobe example before: new abilities emerge as we grow older. Influences on brain and behavior: we can study factors that influence both brain structure and behavioral development. The third way to study the relations between brain and behavior is to identify ad study factors that affect both. Some events that influence brain function are sensory experiences, injuries, and hormones.
