Sexual development: hot semen males, cool semen females. Three stages of prenatal development: structural development of males and females, development of gonads. Intersex- elements of both male and female development occur in the same fetus. In absence of androgens or anti mullerian horomone, mullerian system will develop in the typical female direction. In female fetus, no additional hormones are needed for development: ovaries are not active during fetal development (unlike testes) In the absence of androgens, the female external genitalia develop into clitoris, labia and vagina. In response to stimulation fsh and lh, testes begin to produce additional testosterone and ovaries produce estradiol , the testes produce small amounts of estrogens, including estradiol, and the ovaries produce small amounts of androgens, including testosterone.
