Document Summary

Memory is so complex, there are many possible ways of diving it up. Tulving"s experiment concerned the principle of encoding specificity. Then it is less likely to be recalled by a cue such as card game than by a cue such as prod. Another study conducted by tulving and thomson: participants learned a list of 24 pairs of words, the words that made up the pairs were only weakly associated and they were printed differently. One of them in lower case and the other in upper case. They came up with about 18 of the 24 target words. If there were able to recognize all 18 of the words as the target then they would have 18 words recognition. But they recognize only 4 as being the target word: finally participants were given the original 24 weak cue words and asked to recall the target words. This time they recognize 15 out of 24 target words.
