Document Summary

Principle of escape condiioning (negaive reinforcement) states that the removal of aversive simuli immediately ater the occurrence of a behaviour will increase the likelihood of that behaviour. Child sees an adult with a bag of candies and begins to scream. To stop screaming, adult gives screaming child candy. Teacher gives child a break from training program. Negaive reinforcement: adult is more likely in future to give in to screaming child to escape screaming. Posiive reinforcement: child is more likely in future to scream to get candy. Child is likely to tantrum when presented with frequent prompts from teacher. Teacher presents prompts every 30 seconds to a child with developmental disabiliies. Jogger experiences sensaion of sore lips while jogging. Jogger is likely to use lip balm while jogging to soothe lips. Aversive simulus must be present for the desired response to occur. Not very pracical for maintaining behaviour. Escape condiioning can be seen as preparatory training for avoidance condiioning.
