Each person is, in certain respects, like all other persons, like some other persons, and like no other person. Features of personality make people different from one another; these features usually take the form of adjectives: ex. Trait-descriptive adjectives: adjectives that can be used to describe characteristics of people. The adjectives describing personality refer to several very different aspects of people: ex. Words such as charming and humorous refer to the effects a person has on other people; words such as creative refer to both: a quality of mind and to the nature of the products we produce. Because of the complexities of personality, some texts on personality omit a formal definition entirely. Personality: the set of psychological traits and mechanisms within the individual that are organized and relatively enduring and that influence his or her interactions with, and adaptations to, the intrapsychic, physical and social environments.
