Chapter 11: physical development & health in middle childhood. Alex ran as fast as he could through playground, laughing as his friends tried & failed to catch him. His wide gap-toothed grin flashed back at them as he looked back in glee. Alex"s legs were sturdy & sure as he jumped from playground on to soccer field by its side, although his skinned knees & purple bruise on his arm showed he was not always so lucky. By dinner, alex would be famished, & by night, his physical exertions would sink him into heavy sleep. Normal growth & brain development, & factors that promote it, including proper nutrition, adequate sleep, & good health. When health is not ideal, & on some of factors that can put children at risk for obesity, accidental injury/emotional disturbances. Elementary school during recess: explosion of children of all shapes & sizes. School-age children look very diff from children few years younger.
