Document Summary

Emotions there is always a stimulus that causes the emotion it is felt subjectively and prepares a person for action. An emotion only lasts a few seconds to a minute. 6 basic emotions- fear, anger, disgust, happiness, surprise, sadness. Complex emotions- blends of basic emotions ^^ Most studied emotions- positive emotions & self conscious emotions. Most studied examples of positive emotions: gratitude, contentment, amusement, desire, love (happiness is obviously positive, debated whether or not surprise is because it depends on what you are surprised about) Gratitude feels good to appreciate others (writing gratitude diaries, where you write 2 things you are grateful for everyday-- has very positive effects) Contentment think of a low arousal, enjoying my situation, it is happy but without the intensity component to it (like satisfaction) Love some people say it should not count as an emotion because it is sustained over time.
