PSYB01H3 Chapter Notes - Chapter 4: Dependent And Independent Variables, Causal Inference, Operational Definition
Document Summary
Is any event, situaion or individual characterisic that can take more than one value (i. e it varies) Each of these variables represent a general class within which there will be at least two speciic instances: these speciic instances are called the levels or values of the variable, a variable must have two or more levels. The values will have true numeric, or quanitaive, properies. Values can be non-numeric but are simply diferent categories. There are 4 types of ways to classify variables: An example is sex; male and female: situaional variable- describes characterisics of a situaion or environment. For example, sex, intelligence, and personality traits such as extraversion: mediaing variable- psychological process that occurs between a situaional variable and a paricular behavioural response that helps to explain the relaionship between them. For example, it was found that helping is less likely when there are more bystanders to an emergency.
