Document Summary

Hunger is a biological drive that influences what we pay attention to and interacts with our past experiences and current mental states such as excitement and anxiety. Motivation concerns the psychological and physiological processes underlying the initiation of behaviors that direct organisms toward specific goals. These motives include the thoughts, feelings, sensation, and bodily processes that lead to goal directed behavior. E. g. , when the body"s water levels fall below normal, the receptors in the body respond to lower water volume, and send messages to the brain. The result is the sudden awareness that you"re thirsty, which motivates you to drink water. Drive is a biological trigger that tells us we may be deprived of something and causes us to seek out what is needed, such as food or water. Motivation contributes to homeostasis, the body"s physiological processes that allow it to maintain consistent internal states in response to the outer environment.
