Sir francis galton believed people learn through their senses. He created a set of 17 sensory tests (highest and lowest sounds people can hear, the difference in weight between objects, etc) Anthropometrics: the measurement of people/ the methods of measuring physical and mental variations in humans. James mckeen cattell took these tests to the us and began measuring university students. Found that sensory test scores did not predict their grades. Intelligence should be indicated by more complex thinking (memory, attention, comprehension) rather than senses. Intelligence: the ability to think, understand, reason, and adapt to/ overcome obstacles. Reflects how well people are able to reason and solve problems. Binet and simon experimented with a variety of tasks for the government to identify retarded children. Constructing sentences using a combination of words. Mental age: the average intellectual ability score for children of a specific age.
