Mental disorder defence (insanity defence) claims that the defendant was in such an extreme, abnormal state of mind when commiing the crime that he or she could not discern that the acions were legally or morally wrong. Personality disorders paricularly unusual paterns of behaviour (relaive to one"s cultural context) that are maladapive, distressing to oneself or others, and resistant to change.
