Module 10. 2: infancy and childhood: cognitive and emotional development. Stranger situation coined by ainsworth, a way of measuring infant attachment by observing how infants behave when exposed to different experiences that involve anxiety and comfort. Involves a sequence of scripted experiences exposing the child to mild anxiety. She observed 3 different attachment styles: secure attachment: caregiver is a secure base for the child. If it leaves and a stranger comes in, there is a mode of distress, but when caregiver returns, the child seeks comfort and distress is relieved. Anxious/resistant: child depe(cid:374)ds too hea(cid:448)il(cid:455) o(cid:374) (cid:272)a(cid:396)egi(cid:448)e(cid:396) a(cid:374)d e(cid:454)hi(cid:271)its the (cid:858)(cid:272)li(cid:374)g(cid:455)(cid:859) (cid:271)eha(cid:448)io(cid:396). Child is fearful of the stranger, and when caregiver returns, they push them away not allowing for immediate distress to be easily relieved since they are upset. Child is also inconsistent with their behavior and wants to get away a(cid:374)d also (cid:271)e (cid:396)eassu(cid:396)ed o(cid:396) (cid:862)f(cid:396)eezi(cid:374)g(cid:863), pa(cid:396)al(cid:455)zed (cid:449)ith i(cid:374)de(cid:272)isio(cid:374).
