Motivation: concerns the physiological and psychological processes underlying the initiation of behaviours that direct organisms toward specific goals. Initiating factors/motives- include thoughts, feelings, sensations, and bodily process (leads to goal directed behaviour) Homeostasis- the body"s physiological processes that allow it to maintain consistent internal states in response to the outer environment. Those internal states are- appropriate body temperature, indicators of hunger, thirst. Bodily water levels fall below normal, cells release chemicals compounds that maintain the structure and fluid levels of cells. Also lowers the water volume and sends messages to the brain. Triggers thirst signals , (which motivates us to seek water etc) -> maintains homeostasis (figure 11. 1, pg. Humans are highly motivated to form social bonds. Motivation addresses some uniquely human goals (like achieving success in school or work) Drives: the physiological triggers that tell us we may be deprived of something and cause us to seek out what is needed, such as food.
