Document Summary

Intelligence has no objective standard to which we can compare our measures to see if it"s accurate. James mckeen cattell: galton"s colleague who took his tests to the united states to measure the abilities of university students: found out that people"s abilities on different sensory tests were not/weakly correlated with each other, ex. Having exceptional eyesight seemed to signify little about whether one would have exceptional hearing. If two measures don"t correlate well with each other, then they can"t both be indicators of the same thing (galton"s sensory definition of intelligence: student"s scores on the sensory tests did not predict their grades. If a 7 y/o"s score was the same as the avg score for 7y/o, their mental age would be 7. Intelligence: the ability to think, understand, reason, and adapt to or overcome obstacles: reflects how well people are able to reason and solve problems, plus their accumulated knowledge.
