PSYA01H3 Chapter Notes - Chapter 6: Classical Conditioning, Headache, Stimulus Control
Document Summary
We tend to repeat actions that bring rewards and avoid those that lead to punishment. Operant conditioning is a type of learning in which behaviour is influenced by consequences. Operant conditioning involves voluntary actions such as speaking or listening, starting or stopping an activity, and moving toward or away from something: when we act, it depends on our history of consequences. Difference between cc and oc: a response is not required for a reward in cc. Meat powder was presented even if the dogs did not salivate in pavlov"s experiment. Learning takes place if the cr develops following pairings between the cs and the us: in oc, a response and consequence are required for learning to take place. The main principles of operant conditioning, as defined by skinner, are reinforcement, punishment, shaping, extinction, discrimination, and generalization. The process in which a behavior is strengthened, and thus, more likely to happen again.
