PSYA01H3 Chapter Notes - Chapter 3: Thymine, Guanine, Twin
Document Summary
Genetic and evolutionary perspectives on behaviour 3. 1. Evidence suggests that nature and nurture lie along a continuum with some traits subject to greater influence from genes while others are more environmentally based. Genes and experience are never independent but rather they interact to make us who we are. Research has shown that behaviour is influence by genes just as physical characteristics are. First, genes are the basic units of heredity. They are responsible for guiding the process of creating the proteins that make up our physical structures and regulate development and physiological processes throughout the life span. In the nucleus of each cell, the dna molecule is packaged into thread-like structures called chromosomes. Each chromosome is made up of dna tightly coiled many times around proteins called histones that support its structure. Genes come in pairs, one inherited from each parent and aligned along the chromosomes.
