Document Summary

Joordens: cognitive perspectives on learning, latent learning: (edward tolman) learning that"s not immediately expressed by a response until the organism is reinforced for doing so. Learning may be occurring even if there"s no behavioural evidence of it taking place. Tolman & honzik (1930) experiment on rats: consistent reinforcement is more effective. Individual is actively processing and analyzing information which influences observable behaviours as well as our internal mental lives. 4 processes involved (bandura): attention to the act/behaviour. Observational punishment but not as effective in changing behaviour: imitation & observational learning. In some cases, learning from the media involves direct imitation. Role of media violence in developing aggressive behaviours and desensitizing individuals to the effects of violence. Bandura (1961) experiment on bobo doll: children watched adult attack bobo doll while other group of children watched adults not attack the doll; children are very likely to imitate adult"s behaviour. Viewing aggression is associated with increased aggression and desensitization to violence.
