Document Summary

Cerebral cortex location of billions of cell bodies, site of most of our advanced cognitive abilities (folds and grooves in the brain) Neurotoxic - meaning that it speci cally attacks cells of the nervous system. Neurons -one of major types of cells found in the nervous system, sending and receiving messages throughout the body. Purpose to re, receive input from one group of neurons and to then transmit that information to other neurons. Cell body (soma) - part of neuron that contains nucleus that houses the cell"s genetic material. Genes in cell body synthesize proteins that form chemicals and structures that allow neuron to function. Dendrites -small branches radiating from cell body ; receive messages from other cells and transmits those messages toward the rest of the cell: base of cell body known as the axon hillock. If axon hillock receives enough stimulation from other neurons, it initiates a chemical reaction that ows down the rest of the neuron.
