Paradigm shift = a fundamental transformation in how persons know and perceive the world. Medium theory = a research tradition that considers the technology or individual medium of communication to be equally important to, or even more important than, the content of media to understanding our social environment. Take a look at table 13. 1 on page 315. Time-biased media = durable media such as stone or clay. Space-biased = ephemeral media such as paper and television that are inclined toward secularism, materialism, and rapid social change. Durable media such as clay, parchment and stone. Time-biased and space-biased media need to be in balance for civilization to flourish. Hot medium = extends a single sense in high definition (radio, photo) Cool medium = low definition because it is high in participation or completion by the audience (television, speech, telephones) Light and ephemeral media such as tv and the internet. Acoustic space = space that is spherical, discontinuous, resonant, and dynamic.
