An approach to cda committed to to examining the way language contributes to social reproduction and social change. Practical aim of cda is to stimulate critical awareness of language, in particular awareness of how existing discourse conventions have come about as a result of relations of power and power struggle. It aims to show non-obvious ways in which language is involved in social relations of power and domination". Involves unearthing the social and historical constitution of naturalized conventions (of ways of doing things that are so apparently natural they are just common sense").
