Health studies addresses health, illness, and medicine through an interdisciplinary lens; exploration of issues related to health at individual, cultural, economical, political, environmental, and international levels. Pays attention to wellbeing rather than the absence of disease; wellbeing meaningful state of life; having basic needs met and feeling content with life. Is also composed of research from other social sciences, like political science; humanities. Quantitative research methods - health records and stats, census data, surveys. Qualitative research methods - interviews, focus groups, observation, document analysis; more popular because you can answer the central questions better. Eld is expanding and lots of jobs - nursing, medicine, health policy, health it, etc. Criticality is what distinguishes it from other health research forms. Case: physicians and gifts controversial to give gifts to physicians, likely to prescribe expensive or inappropriate drugs if given a gift, making guidelines to stop this practice.
