History is a highly interdisciplinary field field that is closely linked to topics like sociology, cultural studies, social policy & ethics. Unlike other disciplines, history can provide insights into the types of beliefs & behaviours of societies & people in the past. How predecessors understood ideas of health & illness. Ways in which they & societies in which they lived chose to deal with the medical issues. Seeking to understand factors contributing to change (technological developments, religion or war) The way people lived, what they ate & drank, how they organized private & public hygiene & how they coped - physically & spiritually. Biomedicine dominant model in early 21st century, focuses exclusively on pathogen attacking body, thereby failing to acknowledge social & cultural factors that might be involved. The study of medical history shows that focus on disease rather than health is a new concept.
