Lecture 7: textbook notes: a human body is host to many small organisms because it offers sheltered conditions and nutrients that enhance the organism"s reproduction. Infectious diseases are those that are troublesome to the animal host. A zoonosis is an infectious disease that can be transmitted from nonhumans animals to human either domestic or wild. Ex: influenza, rabies, anthrax: a pathogen is an infectious agent that causes a specific infectious disease to the host. Worms are multicellular organisms that can range from 1mm to 1m in length and are visible to the naked eye. Protozoa are single-celled organisms (microorganisms) which are approximately 10 microns in diameter: contains a true nucleus that contains dna, malaria and cryptosporidiosis are examples of protozoa. Both worms and protozoa are parasites which spend part of their life cycle inside an animal host and manipulate for certain benefits.
