EESA01H3 Chapter Notes - Chapter 4: Hypolimnion, Herbaceous Plant
Document Summary
The largest reservoirs have the longest or residence times for water. Hypolimnion: the lower layer of water in a stratified lake cooler than the water above and still. The area of land drained by a river and all its tributaries is that river"s drainage basin or watershed. Major classes of wetlands: marshes: shallow water allows grasses and seasonal herbaceous plants to grow above the water"s surface. Bog waters are replenished by precipitation mineral-poor, slightly acidic. Fens are fed by ground water mineral rich: shallow-water wetlands: e. g. Ponds, contain open, standing, or flowing water typically >2m in depth. They are transitional between permanent, deep bodies of water and other types of wetlands.
