Document Summary

Single-gene traits discussed b4 have either have one phenotype or another. Wide variation in quantitative traits leads to the great diversity in the human population \o/ the distributions can be taken a form of a curve called normal distribution :) the bell curve contains two important pieces of info: Highest point on the curve = average = mean. Width of the bell itself variability of a population = variance the average distance any one individual is from the mean low variance = small amount of variability tall curve leptokurtic. High variance = large amount of variability fat curve platykurtic. When a trait is influenced by more than one gene. Some of the genes involved in polygenic traits may produce transcription regulators. Proteins that determine if and when another gene is expressed (turned on) E. g. eye color is a polygenic trait influenced by several genes that help produce and distribute the protein melanin brown pigment to the iris.
