One homozygote produces red flowers, the other produces white flowers. Therefore, the heterozygote carrying one allele encoding red colour and other allele encoding white colour produces pink flowers. The phenotype of a heterozygote is actually a combination of both fully expressed traits, instead of a mixture. Where 2 different alleles of a gene are both expressed in an individual is known as codominance. Ex: in cattle, the allele that codes for red hair colour and the allele that codes for white hair colour are both expressed in a heterozygote. The individuals have patchy coats that is a equal mixture of white and red hairs. Polygenic traits: traits that are affected by the interactions amony many genes are called polygenic traits. Genetic traits that are obvious are bone size and structure.
