In 2004, students on a trip to the dominican republic, in hispaniola, captured a lime. Swallowtail butter y, which was the very rst of its species, native to asia, to be captured in the new world. It spread to all corners of hispaniola which was a concern because their caterpillars strip leaves off young lime and orange trees. Within 3 years, it established itself in puerto rico, jamaica, and cuba and can move to florida and the us easily. Ecology the study of the relationships of organisms to one another and to the environment. Ecological relationships sustain a ow of energy and materials from the sun, earth, and atmosphere through organisms, with carbon and other elements that eventually go back to the environment these interactions are what determine how the lime. Anatomical, physiological, reproductive, and behavioural characteristics of organisms are products of evolution and they determine the ways in which organisms interact with their physical and biological environment.
