Document Summary
solute potential: of a solution is a measure of the effect of dissolved solutes on the osmotic behaviour of the solution. the greater the solute concentration, the more negative the solute potential and the greater the tendency of water to move into it from another solution of lower solute concentration. the two solutions need to be separated by a selectively permeable membrane. pressure potential : hydraulic pressure , as more water eneters it increases. water potential: the overall tendency of a solution to take up water. bulk flow: the movement of a solution due to a difference in pressure potential between two parts of a plant. aquaporins: membrane channel proteins through which water can move without interacting with the hydrophobic environment of the membranes phospholipid bylayer. apoplast: consists of the cell walls which lie outside the plasma membranes and the intercellylar spaces that are common to many tissues.
