Document Summary

Migration: the movement of individuals from one population to another resulting in gene flow. Gene flow: the movement of alleles from one population to another: for instance, if there is a population of rabbits (white) on an island and on another island another population of rabbits (black). The construction of a bridge would result in the movement of black and white rabbits to the other islands: migration causes homogenizing of populations, mutations are essential for genetic variation and evolution. In smaller populations, derivatives of the expected outcome are expected as any change (individual failing to breed) can result in a drastic change from the expected allele frequency. Bioa01: random mating: the selection of mates without regarding phenotype, non-random mating: the preferential selection of mates based off genotypical traits, rearranges the allele frequencies of the existing gene pool. Inbreeding: mating between close relatives: results in the increase of homozygote frequency and the decrease of the heterozygote frequency.
