Document Summary

The rebellion of tupac amaru: more than 100 years ago, the indian rebellion rocked the andes of peru between 1720 and 1790. The largest was led by jose gabriel condocanqui- a noble who took the name of. Tupac after the last inca was executed by the spaniards from who he claimed direct descent. Confronted with the difficulty of subduing a large army, the spaniards negotiated peace with the rebels but the conflicts continued. Only the execution of tupac ended the period of andean rebellion. Everyone referred to tupac as the inca (it was believed that the inca wanted all the non-indians to be put to death in a kind of ethnic cleansing). The distinction between the colonizers and colonized was strictly drawn around the concepts of separate republics of spaniards and indians was blurred at the time. The spaniards didn"t stay on the coast but they made their way into the interiors of the american continent.
