Document Summary

A great amount of western history has taught us to view human differences as opposition to one another (dominant/ subordinate, good/ bad, superior/ inferior etc. ) There is always a group of people who need to take the place of a dehumanized spot, and in this case this group consists of black people, third world people, working-class people, the elderly, and women. The author is a black lesbian feminist, and states that she nds herself as de ned as deviant or inferior. The author believes that it is the responsibility of those who are oppressed to teach the oppressors their mistakes (ex. members of the lgbtq+ group educating the heterosexual world, women educating men etc. ) We have been programmed to respond to human differences with fear and to handle these differences in one of three ways: Imitate it if we think it is dominant. Destroy it if we think it is subordinate.
