Couple who separate maybe married to each other, or they may be unmarried but living together in a common-law relationship. Divorce: the legal dissolution of a marriage, so only married couples can divorced it is becoming so common that in fact, it may in time come to be considered a normal family event. Divorced families add two or three phases to the lifecycle: separation, perhaps remarriage, and finally, stabilization and a new family pattern. The symbolic interactionist prospective looks at the individual reasons for divorce: ex. The nature of the relationship and how each partner perceive the relationship. The macro perspectives focus on the wider social context and how these create trends in the divorce rate. Divorce was seen as an exception to be undertaken for only grave reasons.
