Socialization is the process of passing on to new members of cultures way of thinking and acting. It occurs mainly in childhood, and by the time they are adults, people are expected to share the values and norms of society. Most theories of the family look at how cultural values and norms are passed on to new members; in other words, they are concerned about how society reproduces itself. Learning can occur through implicit instruction book occurs most often through subtle interactions and observation of others behavior. Through socialization, individuals develop a sense of their identity, status, and roles in society. While every society socializes its members, how they are socialized can be quite different. Family and friends are the primary socialization agents, secondary socialization agents are schools, and government policies. Socialization experiences or something like a buffet: you can only what is placed on the table, but you don"t need to take everything.
