All humans have the capacity to interpret significant symbols through being involved in a social life. Distinction between the mind ( ability to reflectively interpret symbols) and the self ( experience ourselves as unique individuals) Aspects of the self are shaped through specific social circumstances group expansion and the development of individuality . Individuality increases as ones social circle expands while differentiation within groups also leads to social ties across boundaries. Social structures shape the characteristic of even our intimate relationships. An induvial actions depends upon how the social situations are defined. Experience without taking their place in relationship to the self. One must distinguish between the experience that immediately takes place and our own organization of it into the experience of the self.
